What We Do
Hi! Lucas and Viviana over here.
We’re a Jesus-loving, kid-loving, and fun-loving couple. In that order. We got married in 2013 and since then have been on a mission to figure out how exactly we’ll impact the world together. With Lucas’s medical background and Viv’s bi-cultural upbringing and love for all things international, we thought that surely we’d end up overseas in some remote village.
However, in 2016 we began looking into adoption and foster care. We’d always talked about adoption but hadn’t really considered foster care. That fall, we jumped into the provincially-mandated PRIDE training and became licensed foster parents in early 2017. At the time, our daughter was only six months old. In our first weeks of being an open home, we received frequent calls for children coming into care, but all of them ended up falling through. In early April, we received a call for a newborn baby, and with that phone call, our lives would be forever split into “before” and “after.” Within our first year of being foster parents, we became parent figures to six children for varying lengths of time and had seven others with us on respite care.
Now, we know we may still end up overseas one day, but this beautiful, broken, redeeming, messy ministry of foster care has captivated us. We have gotten caught up in the adrenaline rush of a phone call, the beauty and strength in these children, the brokenness and hurt in their stories, and the utter privilege it is to be a safe and loving home for them for however long they will live with us.
While this blog mostly details our foster care journey, we will sometimes post about other topics. Welcome aboard! We’re glad you’re here and look forward to sharing this small corner of the internet with you.
